Glitch Hits the Pause Button on PlayStation

While the glitch affecting Sony and its PlayStation Network isn’t necessarily breaking news, what is news however is that the issues continue to plague this company. I strongly believe that this latest glitch solidifies the thesis in my book - We are seeing these glitches with more frequency and at larger scale.
The interconnected and ubiquitous nature of technology coupled with the porous application development processes being used at many IT shops, shines the light at little application governance that may or may not exist when putting together these games, social networks and consumer portals like online banking and airline reservations sites to name a few.
While this hack isn’t a software glitch per-se – it does however highlight poor security governance within the PlayStation network infrastructure. Just imagine, over 100 million of Sony own customer information has been compromised, and while the phase restoration of PlayStation continues to drag at a snail's pace, countries like Japan have blocked Sony from restarting the PlayStation network until new security measures are put in place. At the end of the day, how much will all of this cost Sony, its brand? More importantly, what does this mean for the 100 million Sony PlayStation customers?
